Grant Elliott Taylor

Born on 03/28/1984

Departed on 02/01/2014

Resided in Fredericksburg, Virginia

Grant Elliott Taylor, 29, of Stafford County passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 at VCU Medical Center, Richmond.

Grant fought a courageous battle his entire life with Cystic Fibrosis. There are no doubts in our minds that he always had the upper hand. He lived every single day to the fullest and accomplished more things in 29 years that most people can only hope to do in a life time. To be a part of his life was not only a blessing but a privilege. Grant always thought of others before himself and never once put a single thing before his family. He leaves us all with so many incredible memories. To be able to touch the lives of numerous people in such an extraordinary way is truly a gift from God himself.  He knew his time was short, but man if he didn’t live every single day like it was his last.

Grant really enjoyed many different things. He loved being outdoors, military history, fishing, playing guitar, tinkering with things, and welding. More than likely you could find him in the garage fixing his motorcycle with his brother, Garret or driving around with his faithful dog, Winton. Buffy Ripley and her son, Jameson also played an irreplaceable role in the life of Grant as well. They are always will be considered our family. We didn’t have one family dinner, birthday party, bonfire, or hang out in the garage that Grant wasn’t plopped down right smack in the middle of all his nieces and nephews, Joseph, Payton, Hayleigh, Elijah and Sydney hold most of that man’s heart, from fishing, to Popes Creek, to a special dinner at the diner with Uncle Grantski. He will live on through the faces of those little children forever calling him an amazing uncle doesn’t come close.

To our son, brother, uncle, grandson, and dearest friend we live through you and everything you will always be to us. A piece of our hearts goes with you and a piece of yours says here with us. Love you always and see you and mom on the other side.

Survivors include his father, Jeff Taylor; siblings Garrett and his wife, Jenn and Hanna; grandparents Charles and Barbara Taylor of Culpeper; companion Buffy Ripley; and he was an awesome uncle to Payton, Hayleigh, Sydney, Joseph, Elijah, and Jameson. He was predeceased by his mother, Johanna “Jody” Taylor.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

 Interment will be private.

Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Suite 200, Bethesda, Maryland 20814 or to Lifenet Health, 1864 Concert Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23453-1903.

My deepest condolences to Jeff, Hanna, Garrett, Buffy, and their families who lost such an incredible person. Ever since elementary school, Grant was always the guy that everyone liked, wanted to be around, and be friends with. His sense of humor, kind heart, and infectious laugh will definitely maintain in every persons’ heart that ever spent even just 30 minutes around him. His family was so lucky to have to a guy like him, and he was just as lucky to have such a fun, loving, and strong family.

I met Grant in 2006 on a family vacation to Costa Rica. Immediately I was drawn to his warm smile and gentle spirit. We had a great time getting to know each other, and I remember Grant making me laugh more than a few times. A few years ago, Grant came with Owen, Mark and I on a fishing trip. I’ll never forget the peace he exuded out on the water, the way he seemed to make himself a part of the beauty and grace of the ocean. What a privilege to have known and shared space with such a loving, brave soul. May peace find you all.

Grant and my younger brother were in preschool together, remained close growing up and our families interacted at young ages. Early on I was able to observe the growth of a what would soon to be a remarkable man. As the adult years hit us all the interactions changed. People move, relocate, go to school, you know, make that life we are all striving for. If I ever passed by Grant while visiting the Burg I would see the same contagious smile. Many sincere prayers are with you all.
