Tribute

The world lost a beautiful, sweet, gentle soul Monday, February 22, 2016 when Leama Harriet Hamer passed away. Leama was born on January 16, 1950 in Bethesda, Md. to Anne and Sydney Hamer. She lived most of her life in Fredericksburg, Virginia and for the past 30 years lived with her friends and caregivers in group homes run by the Rappahannock Area Community Service Board.Even though Leama was challenged she was a wonderful teacher of kindness, patience, and enjoying the little things in life. She thoroughly enjoyed dolls and babies, animals, swimming, parties, and Christmas. Anyone who was lucky enough to have ever seen her open a gift that contained a doll and hear her excited shout of "baby" knows what pure joy sounds like.Leama loved and was loved by her mother, father, brother, sister-in-law, wonderful friend Becky Clark, all of her caregivers at her group home, her teachers and helpers at day support, and her special friends Tommy, Benny, and Jeff. She is survived by her brother Hal and his wife Joyce, and her large circle of friends.Since Leama so enjoyed a "party", there will be a celebration of her life on Friday, February 26th from 11 am. until 1 pm at her group home, 163 New Hope Road, Stafford. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contributions in her name be made to Rappahannock Area Community Service Board or Rappahannock Adult Activities Inc.The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful people at RACSB and RAAI for their compassion, help, and support of Leama throughout the years.
