Lynwood H. Snellings, 90, of Fredericksburg passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at home with family.Lynwood is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joy Snellings, daughters Karla Snellings and Laurie Snellings,grandchildren Wayne Butler and Karlee Butler, former son-in-law Barry Butler, and numerous nephews and nieces.Lynwood was in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in both the European and Pacific theaters. He re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and served aboard aircraft carrier U.S.S. Princeton CV37. Following his military service, Lynwood worked for several corporations, including RF&P Railroad, FMC Corporation, and Dynalectron Corporation. Leaving the private sector, he went to work for the U.S. Department of Defense in the Pentagon. Over the course of 27 years, he worked for several agencies within the DoD, and retired in 1985 from the 7th Signal Command, Fort Ritchie, where he worked in the plans division as a computer specialist.Lynwood was a member of American Legion Post 290, Stafford, and VFW Post 3106, Leesville, Louisiana.Lynwood was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Fredericksburg. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, in the Trinity Memorial Garden.
