Departed on 02/15/2017

Resided in Goldvein, Virginia

Veronica S. (Ronnie) Johnson, 82, of Goldvein passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017.

Veronica was born and raised in Mt. Kisco, NY.  She was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Katomah, NY.  In 1955 she married her high school sweetheart and classmate, Arney, a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps.  During the next 28 years, as a Marine wife, she became an accomplished horsewoman showing her beloved Quarter horses, training horses and teaching both Western and English Equestrian.

After graduating from Mary Washington College in 1989, Veronica worked for an archaeology firm for a number of years.  During her lifetime she was a Certified Medical Assistant, a volunteer with the Fredericksburg Area Museum and the Red Cross and was involved in preserving historical records at the Fredericksburg Courthouse.  She enjoyed singing in choirs and at care facilities.  The concert tour with the Fredericksburg Singers in the British Isles was one of her treasured memories.

Although Veronica was restricted from accompanying her husband overseas during his 30 year military career, she enjoyed their many trips over the next 30 years visiting 28 countries.  Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011, she made two oversea trips before becoming a resident at Heartfields of Fredericksburg in 2014.

Veronica is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Lt. Col. Arney M. Johnson, Jr. USMC (Ret.).

A funeral Mass will be held at noon on Monday, February 20 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fredericksburg. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

I saw you and your wife every time I visited my mother at Heartfields. Your devotion to her was so evident to everyone.
I appreciate the kindness you showed to my mother by including her in dinner conversations while she was also at Heartfields.

Dear Arney, I am saddened to read of Ronnie’s passing. My friend Fay @ the front desk, at Heartfields, informed me sometime ago that she was in the care of the staff at Heartfields. You have both been in my prayers for sometime. You may not remember me, I accompanied the vets on farm calls many years ago when Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital cared for your horses and various pets. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. God’s peace and comfort.
