Nivedita Choudhary, MD, MPH, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at the age of 45, surrounded by her family at her home in Fredericksburg.
Dr. Choudhary studied medicine at St. Bartholomew’s and The London School of Medicine, graduating in 1994 and went on to pursue her passion for psychiatry through training at the Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit. She then established a successful and welcoming practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan, until 2007 before moving on to the Peak Mental Health Services: her labour of love in Fredericksburg.
A free spirit and an independent thinker, her love for the world’s cultures and diversity was strengthened through her penchant for travel. Born in India, studied in England and worked in America, her experiences continued to magnify her open-mindedness and infectiously positive outlook on life. She was a citizen of the world in every sense.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Harish Chandra; her sons, Rohan Chandra and Dave Raj Chandra of Fredericksburg; brothers Shaurav Choudhary and Gautam Choudhary; sister Lily Singh; parents Mahendra Choudhary and Asha Choudhary; and parents-in-law Ramnandan Sinha and Chandra Prabha Sinha.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 16 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends from noon until 2pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mary Washington Hospital Regional Cancer Centre at MWH Foundation, Snowden House, 2600 Mary Washington Blvd, Fredericksburg, 22401.

I met Niv in 1989 during the first week at medical school. Together with Catherine and Julia we all became firm friends and lived together for several years in North London. We had some great times together and I will cherish these. Niv will be much missed and my thoughts are with her family.

I am saddened and shocked to hear that Niv has passed away. I met Niv at medical college in London in 1989. Niv, myself and 2 other students, Jackie and Julia, became good friends within the first few weeks of meeting each other. We lived the highs and lows together, supporting each other through the trials and tribulations of the next 6 years at medical school. Niv will be missed tremendously by those who knew her. My thoughts are with her family.

Dr Choudhary had a zen for life in healing a myriad of minds, energies, and auras. Her healing powers will be missed as will her life essence and warming smile. She truly made a positive difference.

I was so sorry to hear that Niv had passed away. I met Niv in the first week of medical school in Oct 1989, her room was opposite mine in our dormitory. We became good friends and went on to share a rented house in Homerton for the duration of medical school. I have many very fond memories of this time. Niv was a wonderful friend, kind hearted and vivacious. She will be missed. My thoughts are with her family.
