Obituary

Alvie Vester Street, 73, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, April 16, 2017. Alvie was a native of Whitewood, Va. and a former resident of Richlands, Va.

He is survived by his wife, Cathern Barnett Street, of Stafford, VA and his three children, Michelle Murphy and her husband John of Spotsylvania, Va.; Michael Street of Stafford, Va. and Ginny Gholson and her wife, Sarah of Ashburn, Va. Alvie was also a terrific pop-pop to Christopher, Victoria, and Gracie, and he was keenly anticipating the birth of a new little grandson in June.

Alvie was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather (everyone says that, but we mean it). He was a quiet man who let his actions do the talking, and those actions spoke of love, integrity, and honor to all who knew him. He loved watching sports, reading the newspaper, visiting with family and friends, and playing Rook very badly. Alvie wowed his kids with his fix-it skills, as they grew up knowing that he could fix anything with either duct tape or WD-40. He was a die-hard Dodgers fan, and inspired a love of baseball in all three of his kids (yes, even the girls). Even though he spent his life celebrating his birthday on May 14th, he learned in his early 60s that he was, in fact, born on May 24th. He spent his life from that point on celebrating two birthdays every year (and trying to get presents for both!).

Alvie was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Street and Gracie Blankenship Street of Raven, Va.; and two brothers Chester Street of Lebanon, Va. and Charlie Street of Raven, Va. He is survived by one brother Jerry Street and his wife Betty of Cedar Bluff, Va.; and two sisters Lily Jane Cooper and her husband, Sherman of Stafford, Va., and Brenda Mitchell of Pea Patch, Va. He is also survived by many wonderful cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg with a service to follow at 7 p.m.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 20 at Singleton Funeral Service, Cedar Bluff, Va.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Street Family Cemetery, Rowe, Va.
