Edgar Lewis “Sonny” “Ed” Hancock, 83, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., formerly of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully Friday, April 14, 2017 at home with his beloved wife by his side.
Sonny was born March 10, 1934 in Washington, DC, son of the late Lewis Andrew and Eleanor Frances Higgs Hancock. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy serving during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir of the Korean War and decommissioned ships in Florida. He retired from AT&T as a supervisor and began a second career with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Department. In 2000, after 28 years of dedicated service, Sonny retired from the Sheriff’s Department as a lieutenant and continued to work with their office for an additional nine years.
Sonny leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 25 years, Adeline “Maggie” Ellis Hancock; daughters Terry Luttrell and husband, Bob of Spotsylvania and Sandra Manning and husband, Greg of Harvest, Ala. and their mother, Mary Hancock; three grandchildren Ryan Luttrell, Lauren Luttrell and Chandler Manning; and his faithful German shepherd, Bo.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 26 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg with honors rendered by the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Department.

To the Hancock Family,
Wishing to express my deepest sympathy, extended condolences and prayers to each of you during your bereavement.
I had a wonderful friendship with Ed. He was always professional and courteous in dealing with others, regardless of the circumstances. I salute him for his dedicated service to this country as he served in the military and within the law enforcement community.
