Janet P. Tracy



Janet Potter Tracy, 55, of Fredericksburg passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Mary Washington Hospital.

Janet was born Janet Potter, daughter of John and Sonia Potter in Belfast, Northern Ireland on January 22, 1962. She lived in Belfast until the age of seven and went to Harding Memorial Primary school before moving to Greenock, Scotland.

While living in Greenock, she attended Ladyburn School and graduated from Grove Park High School in 1978. After attending James Watt College for one year, she began working as a baker in Auld’s Bakery.
In March of 1982 she gave birth to her first daughter, Sonia.
In November of 1989, she married USMC Lance Corporal Patrick M. Tracy, son of Michael and Peggy Tracy of Pittston, PA and moved to Washington DC with Patrick and Sonia.
In January of 1992, Janet gave birth to her second daughter, Danielle Karen.
Over the course of the next 25 years, Janet and Patrick remained in the Marine Corps and were stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Parris Island, South Carolina, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, Boulder, Colorado, Camp Pendleton, California and finally retired from the Marine Corps in 2015 and moved to Fredericksburg, VA.

Janet is survived by her mother, Sonia; her brother, Desmond, her sister, Karen; her daughters, Sonia and Danielle and her husband, Patrick. Her father, John D. Potter, preceded her in death in October of ­­­­2004.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 15, at Zoan Baptist Church.
