Ruth Gill Brooks



Ruth Minnie Gill Brooks, 97, of Fredericksburg, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Fredericksburg Health & Rehab surrounded by family.

Ruth was born on December 13, 1919 in King George County and was the daughter of Joseph and Nora Gill. She was a 1937 graduate of King George High School and was retired from the Virginia Shoe Company. Ruth was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church where she was active in the Dorcas Sunday School Class and W.M.U. She was a former member of Mountain View Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for forty years.

Survivors include one sister, Esther Sullivan of Fredericksburg; two nieces Diane Long (Chip) of Fredericksburg and Linda Morgan (Wayne) of Paris, Missouri; one nephew Larry Sullivan (Gloria) of Hartwood; sisters-in-law Margaret Estes, Emma Summers and Caro Lee Brooks and their families; and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was the widow of Cleveland W. (Clebo) Brooks and was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Gill Sullivan and Grace Gill Jett.

A service will be held at noon Wednesday, May 17 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Linwood Bourne, Earl Johnson, Jr., Daniel (Chip) Long, Jr., Al Main, Larry Sullivan and Linwood Thomas.
