Obituary

James Frank “Dada” Atkins, 89, of Spotsylvania County passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mable Arlene Atkins; and parents Dennis and Emma Baxter Atkins. He was a member of Olivet United Methodist Church for 52 years.

Everyone that met Dada became his friend. He spent hours talking to loved ones, family and caregivers, sharing his life adventures and experiences. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time outdoors or in his garage. He loved his family.

Survivors include his sisters, Hazel Dickinson, Rosie Carr, Patsy Keys, Thelma Mastin and Carrie Twigg; brother Junior Atkins; sisters-in-law Frances Carnohan (Clyde) and Doris Simms (Roy); and special nephew and caregiver, Carson Perrin and his special niece, Cindy Robinson who was like a daughter to him; and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Page Brooks, William (Bill) Atkins, Warren Atkins, Roger Atkins, Elizabeth Simms, Mary Paytes and Ralph Brooks.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24 at Olivet United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Olivet United Methodist Church 7676 Stubbs Bridge Rd, Spotsylvania, VA 22551.
