Gerhard G. Vienna



Gerhard G. Vienna, 85, of King George died Friday, April 6, 2018.

Gerhard came to the United States from Oestfriesland, Germany in 1950. After a year he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict where he was awarded a Purple Heart. While later serving in Germany, he married his wife Almuth “Anne” Barkhoff and in 1958 she moved to the United States with him. Several years later they moved to King George and bought a farm. Gerhard worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Dahlgren for many years and retired in 1986 as the Supervisor of Maintenance to pursue a later career in real estate.

Gerhard was a longtime member of the Dahlgren Rescue Squad, was active in the Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge #4, and was a Shriner. He was a member of American Legion Post #55 and served as its Commander. Gerhard also served on the King George Board of Zoning Appeals.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Almuth “Anne” Vienna; his children, Gerhard Vienna and his wife Mary, Doris Dickinson and her husband, Harry, and Theodor Vienna; his grandchildren, William Vienna and his wife Jane, Caitlin Vienna, Elizabeth Dickinson Witt and her husband Ryan, William Dickinson, Charlotte Vienna, and Gerhard Jakob Vienna; and his great grandson, Benjamin Gerhard Vienna. He is also survived by sisters Christa, Folke, and Margarete and brother Wilhelm in Germany.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday April 15 at Christ Lutheran Church. Rev. Anne Jones Martin will officiate.
