Obituary

Lewis Marshall Heflin, 88, of Charlotte N.C., formerly of Fredericksburg, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018.

Lewis was born December 27, 1929, to Willard and Mary Anderson Heflin. He graduated from Occoquan District High School in Prince William County. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.

Lewis started his career in insurance initially representing Life of Virginia, and then State Farm Insurance where he retired after 35 years. His success in the industry led to his induction to State Farm Insurance Millionaires Club and other awards within the company.

Lewis served as the Executive Director for the local March of Dimes for several years. He was also a member of the American Legion and the BPOE Elks #875 before he and his wife, Marjorie, moved to Charlotte in 2006. His passion for golf led him to join the Fredericksburg Country Club where he also served on the Board of Directors. His skill as a golfer was proven by attaining six holes-in-one. He also enjoyed travelling, fishing and boating.

Lewis was a kind and generous Christian man, a wonderful husband, father, PawPaw and Great-PawPaw to his family who he dearly loved.

Survivors include his daughters, Vallie H. Rech and Marsha H. Brady (Matt); and his grandchildren, Emily Matthews (Patrick), Ryan S. Rech and Bryce Rech (Kate); and great-grandchildren Collin Willard, Jaden Matthews and Patrick “P.L.” Matthews, Loughlin Rech and Olivia Gray “Bitsy” Rech.

Lewis was met in heaven by his wife, Marjorie Olive Heflin, his parents and his siblings, Howard M. Heflin and Alice M. Heflin.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm. on Friday, June15 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
