Obituary

Marie Blankenbaker Catlett, 71, was born in Melun, France and resided in Spotsylvania County. On September 2, 2017 she moved to her Eternal home.

Marie leaves behind her loving husband of 53 years, Robert “Earl” Catlett Sr.; two sons, Robert “Robbie” E. Catlett Jr. and wife Cathie and Philip T. Catlett and fiancé Jackie; daughter Susan L. Catlett; and the grandson whom she raised, Micah R. Catlett. She also raised two other daughters, Carol Ann Catlett and Ann Marie Eberly. Marie also had many other grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Marie was the oldest daughter of the late Thomas J. Blankenbaker and Mauricette Herbecq. She was blessed with one sister, Lucy Pritchett and husband Harry; three brothers, Maurice “Bo” Blankenbaker and wife Judy, Jerry Blankenbaker and wife Vicky, and Roy Blankenbaker and wife Barbara; and three half-brothers, Ricky, Steve (deceased), and T.J. Blankenbaker. Marie’s in-laws were the late T.C. and Mary Catlett, Roger and Carol Catlett, and Allan and Rose Catlett. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

As an ordained minister and co-director of Jesus Jubilee, “a family ministry devoted to exalting the name of Jesus through gospel music,” Marie brought many gospel singers and musicians to the area, some local and some from as far away as New York, Florida, and Texas. She also sang with the Jesus Jubilee Singers who recorded three CD’s and had a song, “Wasted Years,” which was on the Top 100 International Charts for several months in 2003. Until she became ill, Marie worked as bookkeeper/secretary for T.C. Catlett & Sons Lumber Company.

The family will meet with friends on Tuesday, September 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 6 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Eley’s Ford Baptist Church Cemetery.
