Brendan Daniel Downey, 20, of Spotsylvania County passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 as a result of an automobile accident.
Brendan was a 2015 graduate of Courtland High School where he had been a member of the National Spanish Honor Society. He played football and was also a member of the track and field team. Brendan was currently a student at Blue Ridge Community College. He enjoyed music and playing guitar.
Survivors include his parents Dan and Kami Downey; paternal grandmother Peggy Downey; maternal grandparents Vaughn and Marian Neshiem; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Hunter Downey.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 16 at Christ Lutheran Church. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the MCV Foundation in support of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). Checks should be made payable to MCV Foundation and mailed to MCV Foundation, P.O. Box 980234, Richmond, Virginia 23298.

The death of Brendan broke the natural order of life; parents aren't supposed to bury their child. There are no words of comfort that will ease the pain but knowing that Brendan was so dearly loved and that we care and dearly love you too. So many hearts are aching.
