Oliver W. Hoskins, Jr., 77, of Spotsylvania County, passed away on April 16, 2024 after a prolonged battle with dementia and Parkinson's disease.
Oliver was a native of Fredericksburg and an active member of his community throughout the majority of his life. After high school, Oliver received his teaching degree from Old Dominion University, in addition to serving for a period of time in the Virginia National Guard. Oliver's ultimate passion was teaching, having taught history and social sciences for 30 years at numerous schools in Spotsylvania. Oliver also had a strong passion for his faith. As a longtime member of Goshen Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, Oliver served in many capacities over the years, including both as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. From a young age, Oliver enjoyed being outside and staying physically active. Oliver played many sports throughout his lifetime, including baseball, basketball, bicycling, and swimming. However, Oliver's favorite was tennis, which he played well into his adult years and even coached at schools where he taught.
Oliver is survived by his devoted wife of over 48 years, Jennifer Hoskins; two sons, Jason and Alex Hoskins; two granddaughters, Emily and Lauren Hoskins; and sister, Elizabeth Newton.
