Blaine Foltz



Arthur Blaine Foltz Sr., 82, of Spotsylvania, died at Hughes Home in Fredericksburg on Saturday, November 4, 2017 with loved ones at his side.

Blaine was a member and deacon of Eley’s Ford Baptist Church. He was a former member of Crossroads Baptist Church and Spotswood Baptist Church.

Survivors include his children, Arthur B. Foltz, Jr., and his wife, Susan, Laura L. Brooks and her husband, Douglas and Samuel B. Foltz and his wife, Patricia, all of Spotsylvania. He has 11 wonderful grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Blaine was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn L. Foltz; daughter Teresa Y. Willis; parents Arthur L. and Helen G. Foltz; sister Shelby G. Foltz; and brother Timothy A. Foltz.

Early in his marriage to Evelyn, Blaine worked for the FMC plant in Spotsylvania and then changed trades to what would become his life-long career as a carpenter; owning his own carpentry company and later working for an area contractor building many of the houses in the beginnings of Lake of the Woods. While pursuing this career, Blaine and Evelyn also took over his father’s grocery business, operating Five-Mile Fork Grocery and later Chancellorsville Market in Spotsylvania. In the early 80’s through to his retirement in 1998, he worked for Dr. Amos J. Willis in charge of the building and ongoing maintenance of the Rappahannock Eye Center and Surgi-Center of Central Virginia on Butler Road.

Blaine was a man of many talents and many hobbies. He sang barbershop quartet and was the bass singer for the Gospel Light Quartet; he did not turn down many opportunities to sing for the Lord! Blaine was also fond of gardening as well as an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. He served as president of the Virginia Trapper’s Association for nine years and was inducted into the VTA Hall of Fame in 2011.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 6 at Eley’s Ford Baptist Church in Spotsylvania with Rev. James H. Coleman, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Foltz, Brandon Brooks, Christian Holz, and John Sawdy. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Eley’s Ford Baptist Church, Tom Cornett, Mike Gragg, David Hargrove, and Wally Lumpkins.
