Doris Ann Dodd

Doris Ann "Dotty" Dodd, 61, of Rappahannock Academy, drifted gently into heaven on the afternoon of Sunday, March 11, 2018, as her family held her hand and comforted her during her transition.

Dotty was born and raised in Capital Heights, Md. As a young girl she traveled to Colonial Beach for a day trip it was there she met the love of her life, Billy, and they shared 47 wonderful years.

Dotty always had a gift of helping those in need. Her hobbies included crocheting, needlepoint and cooking but her true passion was "mothering". Although she only had two biological children, she raised, or helped to raise, dozens of other children. Whether it be a hot meal or a soft bed, she never turned anyone away. While enduring a lifetime of medical problems, she remained strong and compassionate. Dotty never met a stranger. Her latest passion was being a member of Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department, Company 1 Auxiliary, where she was known to many as "Momma Meatball". Dotty’s sweet demeanor and strong determination will live on in the hearts of her family, friends and all who knew her.

Dotty is survived by her husband, William H. “Billy” Dodd Jr.; daughter Chrissy Gibson and husband Jimmy; son Christopher Dodd and wife Brooke, all of the home; her "adopted" children, Tommy Coffman (Shannon), Tiffany Rogers (Mary Beth) and Mary Ann Coffman (Ricardo) and many, many more; "grandchildren" Tristan, Landon, Ariana, Rocky, Rickelle and Richelle; special sisters-in-law Thelma, Barbara, Brenda and Donna; brothers-in-law Jimmy and Gordon; numerous nieces and nephews; and her fur babies, Jiggles, Charlie and Bella could be found cuddling with Maw maw in her recliner on any given day. She was predeceased by her mother, Doris Ann Collins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 16 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at noon on Saturday, March 17 at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Historyland Memorial Park, King George.
