Shelby G. Fredenberger



Shelby Fredenberger, 76, of Spotsylvania died Sunday, October 7 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Shelby was born June 29, 1942 in Roderfield, West Virginia to Earl and Mabel Gilbert. She graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1960. After moving to Washington D.C following graduation, she began working for Department of Housing and Urban Development. She settled in the Fredericksburg area in 1979, making Stafford her home. Shelby worked for Stafford County Government for more than 20 years, retiring in 2012. Shelby was gifted in music, enjoyed sewing and quilting, but most of all, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Eric A. Fredenberger (Mindy) and Lisa K. Fleming (Christopher), both of Spotsylvania; grandchildren Austin Miller, Kyrstin and Reaghan Fredenberger, and Sydney, Cassidy, and Reid Fleming; sister Diana Gilbert of Cleveland, Tenn.; and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Fredenberger Jr.; parents Earl Gilbert and Mabel Gilbert; and sister Janet Newhouse.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 13 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
