On Saturday, February 4, 2017 in a peaceful setting James Joseph Rucker known as Chuck passed away at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg. Resulting from a rare long time battle of a chronic lung disorder that he bravely fought. He was surrounded by the love and long-time companion Trudy Zimmerman and Family.
James was born December 13, 1947 in Philadelphia, first child and son of Joseph and Virginia Rucker
James life started shortly in Philadelphia. His early youth years was resided in Monroe,VA with his grandfather James Perkins Sr., his Grandmother Lila Perkins, his Uncle Ernest Perkins, his Aunts Arlene and Queen and his cousin Lester Well also known as his brother.
He experience a happy life in a small farming community. He attended church at Rising Sun Baptist Church in Monroe, VA. The Watts Elementary School, the Madison Height J.H. and The Central Height H.S. of Amherst County, VA.
After the death of his grandmother James returned back to Philadelphia. He rejoined his sister, brother and sister-cousin Denise William to what he called at that time, “The big city up north”. James first after high school job was working long with his uncle, Lee Perkins in a restaurant. The love cooking in a big Italian Restaurant led him to attended The International Cooking School in West Philadelphia.
As others was impressed with his hosting skills, and keen professional mannerism, he easily gain employment as an Top Casino Card Dealer in Atlantic City, NJ. Eventually he prefer a quieter environment which lead him to work for the Amtrak Food and Beverage Services. The long trips to Vermont and back, and across the mid-west kept him away from home a few days a week. As an proud Amtrak worker, which almost defined him, it became very difficult for him to closed this part of his life because of his declining health. He love working for Amtrak and enjoyed the crew he met along the way.
James was preceded in death by his father Joseph Lester Rucker Sept 12, 1991. His youngest brother Ernest William Rucker May 26, 1993 and his mother Virginia Rucker June 1, 1999.
James leaves to cherish his long time loving life-long partner and companion Trudy Zimmerman; his five sisters; Joan, Carol, Barbara, Sharon, Virginia and his brother Hawthorne; his Aunts Alberta Logan, Ruby Perkins, Queen Beards; Uncle Bill Beards and Sonny LeSane. He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews extended family members and friends. We are all blessed to have been part of his life.
James was an avid sport fan. He loves the Phillies Baseball Team and the Philadelphia Eagles. Win or lose he never abandoned his team, die hard to the end. He love the oldie but goodies, and the love of cooking, love talking to his siblings on the phone. His voice will be well miss, but his love will be in our heart always.
