Elmer Carneal



Elmer Vernon Carneal, Sr., 92, of Stafford County passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Mary Washington Hospital.

Elmer was born November 18, 1924 in southern Stafford County to the late Leslie Eugene and Martha Boutchyard Carneal. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Elwood and Leslie Carneal, Jr. and his former wife and longtime companion, Agnes F. Carneal.

Elmer graduated from Falmouth High School in 1943 and served as a Sergeant with the 405th Bombardment Squadron in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from the RF&P / CSX Railroad in 1984 after many years of service. Elmer enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughter, Vernon Lee Pearson and her husband, James; son Elmer V. Carneal, Jr.; grandchildren Tanji Cropp, Kristen Pearson, Ashley Lee (Ernest) and Leslie Carneal (Ashley); great grandchildren Tommy Jacobs III (Darcy), Tana Cropp (Travis), Kira Snow (RJ), Kyle Pearson (Chloe) and Jacob Lee; and great great grandson, Ryder Wilfong.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Interment will follow in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.
