Eleanor Welch MacBurney

Eleanor Welch MacBurney of Fredericksburg passed away Monday, March 12, 2018.

Eleanor was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, Gigi, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her family, especially her “six pack” of grandsons. She enjoyed baking, crosswords, plants and flowers. She loved family gatherings. She would bake for days in advance making everyone’s favorite cookies and cakes.

Everyone that met her loved her instantly. She was kind, generous, funny and loving. Eleanor made everyone feel at home. She had an amazing work ethic. She retired from Giant Food in 1999. She was so strong and such a courageous fighter. After struggling for years with health issues, which she always managed to bounce back from with the care of her husband, this time she just couldn’t do it.
Eleanor quietly passed away surrounded by her husband and daughters.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Ann, who meant the world to her; parents Loker and Lillian Welch; brother Joe Welch; and father and mother-in-law John and Hazel MacBurney.

Survivors include her husband, Robert “Mac” MacBurney; children Debra Wilkinson (Gary), Carla Sue Conner (Richard Bradshaw), Barbra Ann Blackburn (Bruce Crane Sr.), Robert MacBurney Jr., and Lynn Vandyke; son-in-law Lee Brockett; her six grandsons Gene Wilkinson (Nikki), Jesse Wilkinson, Robert Brockett (Katie), Michael Blackburn Jr., Bobby Blackburn and Richard Bradshaw Jr.; two great-grandsons Landon Wilkinson and Emmett Brockett; sisters Shirley Miller, Catherine Welch, Ruth Swann and Charlotte Goldsmith; best friend Naomi Coakley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
