Norman Howard “Howie” Burns, Jr. passed away at home on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the age of 60.
Howie will be remembered by his loving wife of 36 years, Kit Givens Burns; his two adoring sons, Nate (Leanne) and Ben; his mother, Virginia Firkin Burns; sisters Wynne Ellen Van Covern (David), Tracy Western (Larry), Christy Harmon (Vance; and wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman H. Burns.
Howie was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia and graduated from Andrew Lewis High School class of 1976. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from Virginia Tech. Howie spent his career working in the coal mining and waste management industries. He was an avid fly fisherman who loved being outdoors, backpacking, and camping, but above all else, he was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his family.
An open house celebration of Howie’s life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 28 at Clore Brothers Outfitters, 5927 River Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
